One of our young clients, previously diagnosed with selective mutism, had only ever spoken to her mother and grandmother at home. On her very first session with Janelle, she began to open up—but still remained quiet around others outside her close family.
With consistent, compassionate care and strong collaboration with her family, our client began to build confidence step by step. Just yesterday, she reached a milestone no one had imagined would come so soon—she confidently ordered her own meal at a restaurant and spoke to a doctor for the very first time!
Her mother shared the moment with tears of joy, expressing deep gratitude for finally finding the support they had been searching for over the years.

“Good morning! We’re celebrating this weekend with donuts and ice cream — this is truly a moment to remember! I was planning to reach out today because we’re so proud!
At her eye exam yesterday, when the technician asked her to read the letters, she read them aloud clearly. When asked if she could see a certain line, she replied, ‘No, I can’t see that one.’ Then Dr. Patel came in and asked how she was doing — she nodded.
When the doctor asked what grade she was in, she confidently answered, ‘6th grade.’ And when asked if she has trouble seeing the board at school, she said, ‘No, I’m not.’
I nearly jumped out of my seat! That was the first time I’ve ever heard my daughter speak in a doctor’s office or in public like that. It was amazing!”
